Minor suit openings. With the same number of cards in the two minor suits, say 3-3 or 4-4, I will always (almost) open one club. The reason is that partner may have a very weak hand with 5 or 6 clubs. If I open one diamond, partner will never be able to bid, but if I start one club, partner can always bid two clubs with this hand. Also, if partners suit is diamonds, he can always bid one diamond after my one club opening. If I am 5-4 I will open the five card suit. It doesn't matter if it is clubs or diamonds. Many people will open one diamond (with four cards) and then rebid their five card club suit. I will open one club and if you don't bid one diamond, I will never mention them. With 5-5 however, I will open one diamond and rebid two clubs. ========================================================
