Never Again - Jill Clayburgh - Jeffery Tambor - 2002. A romantic comedy that did not make it on the big screen but it ok for dvd. The language is very rough but the movie is pretty funny in parts and probably more true than anyone would want to admit. 8 It's Complicated - Meryl Streep - Steve Martin - Alec Baldwin - 2009. Streep and Baldwin are divorced and have been for 10 years. She has moved on and now he wants to move back in. This is not a bad movie but other than Streep's very fine perfomance, it has little to offer. 7 Sherlock Holmes - Robert Downey, Jr. - Jude Law - 2009. This is really an action/adventure movie as opposed to a mystery/drama. Rachel McAdams was stunning and the movie moved well but it will not be everyone's cup of tea. 9 (500) Days of Summer - Zooey Deschanel - Joseph Gordon-Levitt - 2009. This is the story of a young man who meets the girl who he thinks is really the love of his life and gets his heart stomped on - again and again. The movie is very slow and very hard to watch. It is the story that nobody wants to see. 4 Spread - Ashton Kutcher - Anne Heche - 2009. Kutcher plays a guy who has made a career out of taking advantage of older women who can provide him with what he needs while he provides them with what they want. It's kind of sad and demoralizing to realize that this really goes on - and the only redeeming features of the movie are the sex scenes between the actors. I rate it a forgettable 5. The Answer Man - Jeff Daniels - Lauren Graham - 2009. Daniels plays a recluse named Arlen Faber who wrote a book 20 years ago and then withdrew from the public. The movie starts very slowly but I thought it turned into one of the sweetest movies I have ever seen. I almost turned it off but I am glad I stuck with it. Starts out as a 5 but winds up a 9. The Reader - Kate Winslet - Ralph Fiennes - 2008. This is a very difficult story. Winslet plays Hannah - a woman living Germany who is illiterate. In the 50's she meets a teenage boy and has an affair with him. In the 60's she is prosecuted for war crimes - it is very complicated. The acting is incredible and the movie was very well done. Everyone will not like it but everyone should see it. 10 Easy Virture - Colin Firth - Jessica Biel - 2008. Set in a country estate in England after the first World War. The son and heir returns home with his surprise wife. She is a "modern" girl and creates a number of problems. The movie is slow in parts and takes a while to explain itself, but there are a lot of good scenes that make it worthwhile. 8 In America - Paddy Considine - Samantha Morton - 2002. An Irish family suffers a loss and in the process of dealing with the loss, migrates to New York City to make a new life. The evolution is portrayed through the eyes of the families two daughters and it takes a while to figure out what is happening but it is a very personal, tender story that will touch your heart. 8
